Another Liberal, Another Senator
Canada’s political landscape has been shaken yet again, this time with yet another revelation about a decision that’s becoming all too familiar in the Trudeau government’s corridors.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s second appointed senator Tracy Muggli was exposed as yet another liberal partisan.
Like a magician distracting his audience, Trudeau talks of virtue while packing the chamber with devotees.
From sizable donations to running under the Liberal banner, Muggli’s past reveals a commitment to the party line.
And she’s not alone. Trudeau’s Independent Advisory Board itself contains seasoned Liberal advocates.
The Senate, envisioned as a bastion of impartiality, is transforming into a Liberal stronghold before our eyes.
This isn’t merely an appointment; it’s part of an unending narrative of political partisanship disguised as independent selections and everyday we have come to find out the truth.
Both tantalising and frustrating, this leak will evoke strong debates and raise eyebrows across the political spectrum.
How deep does the Muggli rabbit hole go? How partisan and Trudeau aligned is she truly? Let us once again dissect one of Trudeau’s worst decisions and find out for ourselves.
Trudeau Picked Another Liberal
Several eyebrows were raised when Justin Trudeau appointed Tracy Muggli to the Senate, claiming her selection was based on independence and qualifications.
Just like those same several eyebrows were raised questioning the likes of Charles Adler who liked to preach independence but raises the Trudeau flag whenever he has the chance.
And just like people dug up Charles Adler’s murky political past for all the world to see, delving into Muggli’s past provides nothing more than a treasure trove of Liberal allegiance.
Imagine the surprise then, or lack thereof, when it’s discovered that Muggli is no stranger to the Liberal donation rosters.
Between 2006 and 2020, she forked out a neat sum of $18,832.07, broken down into 221 separate donations.
Pretty interesting and new to see independents donating for one party over 200 times and still claiming to be totally non-partisan in our day and age. It is like a bad magic trick, or they actually think we are that uninformed and stupid.
Call it dedication or just plain old cronyism, the line between the two blurs under Trudeau’s narrative. Muggli isn’t merely an altruistic donor. She’s a card-carrying member of Trudeau’s inner circle, having even kissed the electoral ring by running as a Liberal candidate in the 2015 and 2019 federal elections. It doesn’t get more convincing than that.
Unsurprisingly at the time, she landed gracefully—albeit third behind the stronger contenders. Still, it gets better, or perhaps worse, depending on one’s tolerance for political theater.
Muggli’s advocacy during her candidacy included support for controversial policies like the firearm ban and the far-reaching carbon tax, not to mention her push for furthering trade ties with China. And with that mention of China she cements herself as forever a devout liberal and follower of Trudeau.
Trudeau Loves “Independents”
It is honestly ironically hilarious how all these liberals claim to be independent and different yet always seem to circe back to the same few policies that Trudeau and his cronies already support, while also showing hints of weird allegiances like the China thing, just to hammer home the weird relationship between China and the Liberals.
But Trudeau’s masterpiece in this saga isn’t limited to one senator. The so-called Independent Advisory Board for Senate Appointments (IABSA) has recommended figures with Liberal stamps of approval more often than not. It’s as if every meeting of the board doubles as a Liberal Party reunion.
Take Sandra Kelly and Gerald Glavine, who are more than just advisory board members; they’re seasoned Liberal donors.
Is this an independent advisory board or a Liberal backstage club? And what about the existing senatorial roster? Figures like Bernadette Clement, Hassan Yussuff, Michèle Audette, Amina Gerba, and Joan Kingston, to name a few, join Muggli in keeping the red banner high in the Senate chambers.
In fact, there’s even a former Liberal MP among them—Rodger Cuzner. The repetitive narrative remains consistent: a Liberal by any other name would still smell of partisanship, irrespective of the purported ‘independent’ badge.
Enter Conservative spokesperson Sebastian Skamski, whose criticism cuts through Trudeau’s veil of impartiality. According to Skamski, the Prime Minister’s incessant appointments are shaping the Senate into a playground for Liberal loyalists, undermining any concept of independence. Skamski argues that Canadians were misled, lulled into a false belief of non-partisan reformation in the Senate, only to be slapped with a lineup of Trudeau’s merry band of Liberals.
The scenario takes a colourfully sarcastic turn when considering Justin Trudeau’s champion cheerleader, Charles Adler, poised for joining Muggli.
Charles Adler will have you believe that he is still somehow a conservative speaker even with all the mounting evidence and quotes he is hiding behind his back that expose him and his true partisan agenda.
What is the Future of the Senate?
One could almost hear the cheers of “liberal integrity” reverberating through the halls of the Senate—ironic, isn’t it?
Under a Conservative government led by Pierre Poilievre, this partisan parade would end. Poilievre’s administration promises to appoint senators who resonate with common sense Conservative priorities—slashing the carbon tax, bolstering home-building initiatives, reining in budgets, and curtailing crime rates. It’s almost like a fresh breath of common sense politics amidst Trudeau’s cloud of partisan smokescreens.
As we unravel the intricacies of Trudeau’s senate appointments, it’s increasingly clear that the cloak of “independence” is wearing thin.
The Senate, envisioned as a bastion of nonpartisan insight, is steadily morphing into a Liberal safeguard against potential dissent.
